This year is the 250th Anniversary of the United States, meaning the signing of the Declaration of Independence!!! There is planning underway for celebrating this historic event. As activities are finalized, details will be shared, hopefully everyone in the town will join us in celebrating this historical occasion.
On 4/19 the American Legion Post 1339 held their Anniversary Dinner at the Grange Hall. There was 40+ people in attendance including Matha Washington (Valerie Haynes) and her best friend Lucy Knox (Anne Sebeck). Members from various organizations were represted and a delicious meal was prepared by Chefs Mark Sebeck and Sue Sebeck. Readings were done throughout the evening of actual accounts from the Revolutionary War from Pension Record Applications of Veterans, this was put together and coordinated by Liam Herbert. It was a very informative and social gathering to kick off the 250th celebrations for our country.
We are pleased to say we have an update group of Historical Artifacts out for your viewing pleasure. We are here during normal Town Clerk Hours (Tues 9-12, Thur 1-4, Sat 9-12).
We continue to have a magazine rack with a lot of yearbooks as well as a box of yearbooks that you can look thru. Also in the rack are some other interesting books about the Town. Also out is a table that is made from a section of the floor from the old Upton Castle.
We encourage you to please come to the Town Hall and have a look.
